I feel like a little kid again...
Yesterday, I went with three of my sisters to see The Eagle in theatres. It was a fun movie, although I had no idea what I was getting into; an unusual happening for someone who likes to research whatever she can about movies, books, etc. I liked the adventure, the relationship between the two main characters, and the plot, although the plot could have been a little more complicated for my tastes.
This blog is not about all that, however.
After watching the movie, we got out into the parking lot. Our car was parked far away, sitting in the lot all by itself. After watching the action-filled movie, I did not want to merely walk sedately to the car that was so far away. I took off running towards it, Aimee close behind me.
At first, the running was fine, but then, somehow, whether it was my foot slipping on ice and falling out of pace, or just my unpracticed legs trying to keep up with me, but suddenly I felt my center of balance slide too far forward.
"Oh, great," I thought to myself as I tried to keep my feet underneath me, "I'm going to fall." I tried to keep going, to bring my feet further out in front of me to stabilize myself, or to slow down without toppling over, but it was not to be. I fell to the ground and rolled.
When I came up, my knees were smarting, understandably so. But I had not torn my jeans, thankfully, and there seemed to be no further damage beyond a sore shoulder that I rolled over, and a spot on my hand near my wrist where I had caught the ground on the way down. We were all laughing about my fall for the ride home.
At home, I got my PJs on, and looked at my knees... Both sore, raw, and red. Yep, I had skinned my knees, something that hasn't happened for years. They are still sore this morning, and I've taken to wearing a skirt around the house so they can air out and heal before I have to cover them for work tonight.
You know what this teaches me? A couple of things.
The first one is this: "Never run in the parking lot when there is snow and ice on the ground."
The second is "you need to practice your running skills."
